Keep Sundays and Days of Obligation Holy
Different from the Ten Commandments, this image depicts the 1st Commandment or Precept of the Church, which is: To Hear Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation.
The Church received the authority to make laws from Our Lord when He said, "He that heareth you (the apostles), heareth Me." Luke 10:16 and again, "What things so ever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven." Matthew 18:18.
Image Explanation
The Top Half shows the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, Holy Days of Obligation, and other Feast Days that are very important or cherished. You can see Christmas, Assumption, Sts. Peter and Paul, Corpus Christi, and so many more!
In the Bottom Half you can see the Each Day of the Week is dedicated to a particular devotion.
Monday is dedicated to the Holy Souls in Purgatory.
Tuesday is dedicated to the Holy Angels.
Wednesday is dedicated to Saint Joseph.
Thursday is dedicated to the Eucharist.
Friday is dedicated to Our Lord's Passion and Death.
Saturday is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
To the Right of the Days of Devotion, you can see the faithful making their rounds throughout the Liturgical Season giving due Honor to their devotions and striving to "Enter by the Narrow Gate" by heading up to Mass to fulfill their Sunday Worship.
The Bottom Left Scene shows the Holy Mass of the First Christians.
The Bottom Right Scene shows the Feast of the Tabernacles, which is a pre-figure of the Sacrament of the Eucharist.
The Center Scene shows a ball or party, which represents Worldly Pleasures and hindrances that have been presented from Temptations of the World, the Flesh, and the Devil. These other attachments that keep us away from our obligations to God and striving for Holiness will eventually lead us to Hell.
As St. James would say, "What does it profit, my brethren, if a man says he has faith but has not works? Can his faith save him? If a brother or sister is ill-clad and in lack of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what does it profit? So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead."
And likewise, Our Lord once told St. Jerome, "the things that you treasure, are also the things that fill your heart." Therefore, if we treasure Heaven, God, His Church, etc., then these things will also fill our Heart, but if we treasure the world and ourselves, then we will already be failing to follow Jesus's First Commandment to love the Lord your God with all your Heart, with all your Soul, and with all your Mind.
